The Tooth Fairy Story Review: Animated Journey with a Sprinkling of Family-Friendly Tween Love Story
Throughout this animated adventure aimed at tweens, the world of fairies focuses on collecting teeth from sleeping youngsters and leaving gold beneath where they sleep. Skateboarding youthful nonconformist fairy Van (brought to life by Booboo Stewart) shows little enthusiasm about devoting his life to gathering baby teeth—a feeling that’s entirely reasonable. He is just a bit more curious about the financial workings of the situation: the fairies deliver the teeth to mysterious goblins, who supply gold as payment. But Van’s curiosity grows when he spots a goblin (voiced by Larkin Bell), who proves to be not at all the ugly creature he had imagined.
An Unlikely Bond and Shared Threat
The stage is set for an exciting quest with a light sprinkling of young love (even though it remains very much suitable for younger kids). The goblin and fairy groups are separated from one another, and nothing fuels the excitement of secrecy to unite beings together. Both groups portrayed in the film are remarkably alike, yet each holds biased views about the other. Fairies are said to be entitled sorts, prone to stealing whatever they fancy, while the goblins are allegedly stupid, smelly, and backward, but are in fact intelligent and advanced in technology.
Of course, this scenario requires a shared foe to unite against, and that need is met by a group of vicious spiders, with voices by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. They make no secret with these guys: they aim to devour the goblins and fairies, and they make for quite savage, if not particularly skilled, villains.
Ideal Viewers and Overall Impression
There aren’t very many children’s animations targeting the viewer group that is beginning to have early romances, but aren’t yet mature enough for the content 14-year-olds are watching instead of popular teen sagas. If your child is in the right age bracket, it probably won’t to become their new all-time fave, but it’s a decent choice.
The Tooth Fairy Story arrives in Scottish cinemas from 10 October and the rest of the UK beginning October 24.
