Donald Trump Touches Down in UK for Second State Visit As Demonstrations Gather in Windsor

Donald Trump has landed in the UK ahead of what marks his repeat state visit, an event labeled as historic in modern diplomatic relations.

The president and his wife Melania landed Tuesday night at London Stansted aboard Air Force One. The schedule features activities over the next two days, including meetings with King Charles, military parades, and a possible aerial demonstration by the RAF aerobatic team together with UK and US F-35 jets.

Demonstrations Mount Against Trump’s Policies and Rhetoric

Trump’s arrival has triggered criticism from multiple groups in the UK, with the anti-Trump alliance organizing a protest in Windsor on Tuesday and planning another rally in central London on Wednesday.

One prominent figure claimed the US president of fueling the flames of divisive, far-right politics across the globe in the past few years.

The critic stated that Trump’s deployment of the military in US cities and focus on of minorities echoed tactics straight out of the authoritarian’s playbook.

He stressed that while preserving good relations with the US is pragmatic, the UK must be willing to speak out against a leader who advances harmful policies.

Ceremonial Welcome and Demonstration Details

Upon arrival, the presidential couple were greeted by US protocol officials and a British lord-in-waiting on behalf of the king. The foreign secretary was one of those in attendance to greet the president.

The Trumps then boarded Marine One, their official aircraft, which took off shortly after their arrival. They were expected to travel to Winfield House in Regent’s Park.

Meanwhile, around 70 protesters assembled outside Windsor Castle, carrying placards and chanting slogans such as “Trump out” and “Donald Trump not welcome here”.

A protester commented, “It is necessary to show that we do not support what is happening in the world at present.”

Another individual voiced frustration at the government’s decision to extend such a warm welcome, calling it “disgusting” and asking whether Trump deserved such exceptional treatment.

Royal Events and Armed Forces Participation

King Charles and Camilla are set to welcome the presidential pair with a formal reception at Windsor Castle, including gun salutes fired simultaneously in Windsor and at the Tower of London.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that this would be the biggest guard of honour ever presented during a state visit, with approximately 1,300 military personnel and 120 horses participating.

The event will also include a horse-drawn parade toward the castle, accompanied by the household cavalry, and a Beating Retreat ceremony—the first time such an act has been performed for a state visit.

A lavish state banquet will feature performances by multiple musical groups, including the a royal musical unit and bagpipe players from the a historic regiment.

Divided Opinions and Upcoming Plans

While many demonstrated, some expressed support for the US president’s visit. One supporter remarked that his presence could help in facilitating world peace and reinforcing global partnerships.

A Windsor resident said that while staying away from demonstrations, they felt the protests reflected the opinions of the majority in the UK, stating that the state visit seemed designed to placate Trump rather than represent public sentiment.

Trump is set to visit the country residence of Keir Starmer on Thursday, with military aviators positioned along the route upon his arrival.
