Arne Slot acknowledges it will be a tough job to boost struggling Liverpool

Arne Slot remarked that he faces a substantial challenge to energize Liverpool after Manchester United prevailed at Anfield for the first time in more than a decade, handing a fourth straight loss on the struggling Premier League champions.

Missed Chances and Defensive Errors

The team's manager attributed profligacy in front of goal and additional mistakes during set plays from his squad for their most recent setback, as the Manchester United manager enjoyed the initial consecutive league victories of his time with the club.

The match-winner, whose decisive header ensured victory, admitted it was "embarrassing" that United had needed over 50 fixtures to attain that feat under their manager.

Squandered Chances

The Liverpool coach argued it should not have been possible for Liverpool to be defeated in a contest in which they created so many scoring chances. Cody Gakpo struck the crossbar thrice and squandered a gilt-edged opportunity to net a tying strike in the late stages. But having fallen to Crystal Palace, another team, Chelsea, and now Manchester United, the head coach accepted he has a mission on his hands to halt Liverpool's negative sequence.

Persistent Tests

"As a manager, you always confront difficulties," remarked Slot. "Initially and you need to win games, when you go to a larger team, being the heir of the previous coach and people are claiming: 'It represents the largest hurdle you have ever faced.' Now we have suffered four consecutive defeats and that is also a challenge. The career of a soccer coach is indeed an continuous challenge."

Confidence and Performance

"But do we lose confidence? I have not noticed that so far because each match we've lost we were able to create in the latter period an astonishing quantity of chances. If we can maintain creating what we are accomplishing and possibly do a few things a little bit better, then there is every reason to expect that we will secure matches again. Of course there is the additional factor that, apart from the pair of strikes we let in, we conceded maybe a couple more openings. This is continually the battle we have when we are behind early, then you need to take a slightly greater of a gamble."

Officiating Debate

Arne Slot felt the umpire, the match official, needed to stopped play before the opponent's 62-second opener because of a concussion sustained by Alexis Mac Allister. The Liverpool midfielder needed medical stitching in a cut. But the manager said: "The main thing I should do now is refrain from grumbling at these kind of things. We should have done significantly improved after Macca was on the floor but the safety of the players is important and if a footballer must have treatment, you would expect all parties realizes he required care. But we might have performed superior and that is not the reason we fell short. The reason is we squandered far too many opportunities to triumph in a match."

Opposing Views

Ruben Amorim stated United's determination and poise was crucial to success at Anfield, especially after the Liverpool player levelled for Liverpool in the latter stages, but insisted the finest result of his unsettled tenure would not modify any goals for the campaign.

The United head coach said: "I prefer you folks [the media] to continue with the perspective that you have so I shall not raise the objective. What we must do is aim to triumph in a trio of successive fixtures now and ignore top four or top six. We had mentioned we want to go to international tournaments. This alters nothing. We are the identical side we were 90 minutes ago."

Player Reactions

Harry Maguire, though, described the victory as "massive" for United as they eventually obtained back-to-back Premier League victories under the manager. United's goal scorer remarked: "It's shameful really. It's not a stat that we ought to discuss because it is an humiliating stat to have."

"With that behind us, we aim and make it three [wins] on the weekend against Brighton, because we have to start showing a little more regularity together. The recent seasons we'd deliver a performance like this and the subsequent match we decline again. We have established a standard, there are many aspects we can improve."

"Amorim seeks flawlessness so I'm confident he will expect us to play better than we did in the second half. Great fight, great spirit, big win, but again we need to push again."
